Q&A: A Day in South Florida with the Editorialist’s Stefania Allen & Kate Davidson Hudson
Miami Beach, FL – May 8, 2015 – The Editorialist’s co-founders, Stefania Allen and Kate Davidson Hudson hosted Cecconi’s Miami Beach’s monthly Fashion for Breakfast. Moderator Julia Ford-Carther, assistant editor at Ocean Drive Magazine led the conversation, covering everything from fashion to family and engaging the audience to share questions of their own.
Before the fashion forward day kicked off, World Red Eye seized the opportunity to catch up with Kate Davidson Hudson of the Editorialist, where she give us an inside look into how her and Allen created their unique concept, some of the latest trends buzzing around, and what we can expect from the Editorialist in years to come.

WRE: How did you two meet? What were you both doing before starting The Editorialist?
KDH: We met as assistants in the fashion department of Harper’s Bazaar. We were both former Fashion Accessories editors.
WRE: What sparked the inspiration for you both come up with the idea for The Editorialist?
KDH: We realized we were getting our fashion media and shopping almost exclusively online. We decided to marry the two for a more efficient experience- that experience is now the Editorialist experience.
WRE: Apart from the difference of focusing on luxury accessories, what would you say sets the Editorialist apart from other luxury retail sites like Net-a-Porter or Rue La La?
KDH: Editorialist is the only site focused exclusively on the luxury accessories market. We believe accessories are the most powerful tools in transforming a look and the smartest investment pieces in a wardrobe. We know the market better than anyone else on the market and are able to leverage our past editorial experience to spot new talent and bring coveted designer exclusives to our readers. With all other sites, accessories are very much an after-thought, and many of the accessories buys at large retailers are redundant. We were frustrated by this as consumers before we launched the site as we felt we were seeing the same buy at all of our favorite stores and the amazing pieces we saw during the shows were not connecting on the retail floors. We make a concerted effort to buy these special, one-off pieces that our discerning, fashion savvy woman cannot find in the market.
WRE: The Editorialist offers a unique concierge program for its customers, can you tell us a bit about this?
KDH: Our in-house concierge is in place to ensure the ultimate white glove experience for every visitor to our site. From styling advice to creating bespoke pieces, our team of editors, and stylists are on call to help with all of our readers fashion accessory needs.
WRE: As you purchase for the site, do you find yourself slipping favorite pieces into your own wardrobe?
KDH: Of course! All the time- we’re spoiled for choice. It can be dangerous most days!

WRE: What are some major trends we can expect for Summer?
KDH: A nod to the 70’s was one of our favorites with flatforms, ultity satchels and long gold pendants. Also obsessing over gladiators as seen on the runway at Valentino and Chloe.
WRE: Living in Miami can be a bit difficult to follow the typical seasonal trends, what are some staple items every girl down here should own?
KDH: As New Yorkers, we are very jealous of your warm weather. Every girl needs a white sandal (loving the Aquazurra Beverly Hills and Paul Andrew stacked heel), an espadrille (Pierre Hardy, Chloe or Proenza Schouler are among favorites), a choker to dress up any day look, a cross body (we’re obsessed with hands free these days!) and an earcuff. Those are just a few!

WRE: What is a day in the life running Editorialist like?
KDH: Every day is different. Everyday at Editorialist is different; we’re constantly running in and out of the office between market appointments, photo shoots, scouting for new designer talent, and vendor meetings. At the office, we’re reviewing our designers’ layouts and videos for the stream of new content that is posted on the site daily.
WRE: What are your hopes for The Editorialist in years to come?
KDH: As the first mover in this space, we are really excited about the growth over the last two years. We now have a print magazine as an extension of our digital issue; we featured Christy Turlington on the last cover and are excited about the next cover announcement to come.

Absolut Elyx & The Editorialist at the St. Regis Bal Harbour
Shortly after Fashion for Breakfast, the girls were on their way for an intimate Pre-Mother’s Day afternoon hosted by Sara Colombo, founder of Nest Casa and one of Editorialist Magazine’s featured influencers.
