James Brown at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne (April 15, 2005)
Miami, FL – March 12, 2025 – The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne will shut down in May for a $100 million renovation, with plans to reopen by December.
The six-month closure will result in the layoff of about 425 employees, as reported in a required notice to Florida officials. The renovation, led by the resort’s original developer Gencom, aims to upgrade guestrooms, dining options, public spaces, and amenities to maintain the property’s status as a premier luxury destination.
Located on a scenic barrier island, the 13-story resort offers oceanfront views, multiple pools, and access to activities like golf and tennis. Gencom, which reclaimed majority ownership last year, sees this project as an investment in the resort’s long-term future.
Rooms are currently priced from $713 per night, but bookings will be unavailable from May until mid-December.
