Cinco de Mayo at SET on May 5, 2011

If you’re like the rest of Miami, you probably don’t know what you’re doing yet this weekend. Lucky for you, it’s Friday and we’ve got your line-up of what to do right here with our brand spankin’ new weekend guide. On every Friday, World Red Eye will be bringing you a specially selected list of the hottest things going on for the weekend. Some of them are things we’ll also be at, covering all the action, and some of them we won’t be at but still think they’re going to be awesome. There’s so much constantly going on in Miami- in every area from DJs and musical acts to the arts and dining scene. There’s no reason to ever be sitting at home with nothing to do when we’ve got the great city of Miami as our backyard! We’re taking all the work out of it for you, and simplifying it down to this very essential list of things you need to check out. Maybe you can’t make all of them, but at least you know what’s going on and can pick one or two.

May is actually upon us, and its first weekend couldn’t have more cause for celebration. Between the music and club festivities on Friday night to the unofficial drinking holidays on Saturday and the actual Americanized Mexican holiday on Sunday, there’s no way to have a bad weekend. Check out all the details below of where you need to be, and add these top five things to your weekend plans.

Lil Jon at LIV

It’s Friday night, and you’re ready to get your weekend started full steam ahead. In that case, you’ll want to head to LIV tonight for Lil Jon. Every time he’s at LIV, it’s a guaranteed massive party. This guy knows how to get crunk, do shots, shots, shots, and get low. So make this your late night clubbing destination tonight. World Red Eye will be out there capturing all the crunk-ness with you too.

Of Montreal at Grand Central

If the indie music scene is more your thing, head Downtown tonight to see Of Montreal perform live at Grand Central. They’re kicking off their US summer tour right here in Miami with Wild Moccasins. We should feel special they chose to start things off with us and give them a packed house. Don’t let them down hipsters.

Kentucky Derby at Bourbon Steak

After you’ve made it through Friday night, brace yourself for the rest of the boozy weekend. Start things off Saturday and keep it classy with a Kentucky Derby watch party at Bourbon Steak. Dust off your wide-brimmed fancy hat and head over to the bar and lounge area from 5 to 7pm. They’ll have $5 mint juleps, free southern bites, and prizes for most creative headwear. Oh, and the race will be shown on their flat-screen TVs, because that’s what we all came to watch, right?

Brew at the Zoo

If getting all glammed up to watch the Derby isn’t in the cards for you on Saturday, perhaps a nice little beer fest will do. The fourth annual Brew at the Zoo is on Saturday night. It’s the perfect way to consume massive amounts of beer and get wasted like animals, with the animals. This year will have infamous hip hop sensations Naughty by Nature and Uncle Luke performing, so you can really get your groove on after all that booze.

Brickell Fest Cinco de Mayo

In case you haven’t flooded your bloodstream with enough alcohol yet, or maybe you saved it all up for this holiday, Sunday is Cinco de drinko- er- Mayo. There are plenty of ways to get your Mexican waste face on around Miami this year, but Brickell Fest might just be the best one. Plus, we’ll be there photographing all the Mexican mayhem. For the second year in a row, they’ve got an 11 hour block party going down all afternoon and night with mariachis, margaritas, mini wrestlers, a mechanical bull, Mexican munchies, and lots more.
