Trópico Music Festival
Acapulco, MEX – December 7, 2013 – If you wanted to get away from the Art Basel craze a few weeks ago, but still wanted warm weather, sandy beaches, and amazing live performances, the Trópico music festival in Acapulco, Mexico was all your anxious soul needed. Trópico provided guests an opportunity to enjoy a perfectly tailored line up of world class musicians, on a grass field overlooking the beach, sunset, and even the sunrise.
Located a stone’s throw away from El Revolcadero, one of Mexico’s most beautiful Pacific coast beaches, Trópico gave the crowd a great setting to enjoy music from the likes of Little Dragon, Nicolas Jaar, Darkside, Jagwar Ma, Pachanga Boys, Dengue Dengue Dengue!, Washed Out, Poolside, Plastic Plates, Nortec presents: Bostich + Fussible, Centavrvs, and many more.
Starting with crazy parties at the local night clubs the night before, Trópico continued the next afternoon at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess Resort with Poolside on the decks. Centavrvs kicked-off the main stage – set on a spacious grassy lot right next to the beach, before Poolside performed a killer live set.
As the sun began to set on the festival, and as the mezcal was starting to hit, Washed Out played an unforgettable sunset live set, even going as far as timing an extended song just for the sunset.
It was then time for Dengue, Dengue, Dengue! This DJ duo is a cross between Latin American music played at your favorite Colombian dance club, and a tech/deep house vibe at your local late night joint. Each subsequent act brought a different yet perfect vibe which showed how much time and effort went into the lineup. Jagwar Ma followed up with terrific energetic and uplifting set.
After a quick set change, Little Dragon went on to perform a wonderful show with a crew of backup dancers that got the Mexican crowd going nuts. They closed their night with a ‘norteno’ remix of ‘Little Man’ and a soulful rendition of ‘Twice.’
Then came Darkside. Nicolas Jaar & Dave Harrington provided a live set for the ages. With Jaar’s deep beats and voice combined with Harrington’s mystical guitar playing (even with his mouth at one point), Darkside won the crowd over.
To uplift the hyperactive festival crowd, Nortec brought Bostich + Fussible, a band that crosses the traditional Northern Mexican ‘Norteno’ genre with electronic music that fit perfect for a very proud Mexican crowd.
Closing off the night at the main stage was a truly unforgettable Nicolas Jaar DJ set that was scheduled to end at 3. However due to a last minute change in the schedule, Nico kept the vibes going at the sunrise deck alongside with friend and Darkside partner, Dave Harrington.
As if that weren’t enough for the crowd, Trópico had one last gift for them: Pachanga Boys DJing an incredible set with one of the most beautiful sunrises rising up behind them. They brought the exhausted yet committed crowd to the end of what was an unforgettable festival.
