GMCVB Launches Miami Sports & Wellness Month with Miami Mascot Madness Kick-off Race at Museum Park
Miami, FL – March 31, 2016 – The fur and feathers were flying when the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) launched its Annual Miami Sports & Wellness Month, sponsored by Citibank, with the Miami Mascot Madness Kick-off Race at Museum Park in Downtown Miami. For the first-time ever, the region’s professional and collegiate sports mascots united in a symbolic move capturing the spirit of the Miami Sports & Wellness program. The mascots raced to raise funds for their charity of choice. Sprinting to the gold was TD, the fin-sporting Miami Dolphins mascot, who earned a $3,000.00 donation on behalf of the GMCVB for the Miami Dolphins Foundation. TD was followed by Obie of the Orange Bowl, whose silver medal finish earned a $1,500 donation from the GMCVB for the Orange Bowl Youth Leadership Academy. Sebastian the Ibis from the University of Miami rounded out the top three, netting a bronze medal and a $500 donation on behalf of the GMCVB for the United Way of Miami-Dade. Other participants included Burnie of the Miami Heat, Billy the Marlin of the Miami Marlins, Bucky, the Buccaneer of Barry University, The Florida Memorial University Lions, Roary the Panther from Florida International University, and STU The Bobcat from St. Thomas University. Available during the entire month of April, Miami Sports & Wellness Month offers locals and visitors special discounts along with great recreational activities including golf, tennis, bicycling, running, water sports and more throughout Greater Miami and the Beaches.
