RIP Patron Saint of The Arts Dolores Ziff

Miami, FL – January 14, 2010 – I’ve had the honor and pleasure of getting to know this extraordinary woman over the past 10 years and I was truly saddened by her loss. Although her name will always be immortalized alongside of her husbands on the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House, this is a great loss to our city and to all who knew her. Being around Dolores was like being in the company of a movie star from the golden era of Hollywood – she had a visible glow and a true zest for life. Best known as a generous patron of the arts in South Florida, she played many other roles. A farmer, benefactor to numerous charities, U.S. Navy servicewoman, accomplished cook, horse-breeder, actress, gunnery instructor, art teacher, skin diver, author, antiques dealer and rally-car racer. The role Ziff cherished most, however, was as a family woman. I have taken photos of her in so many different Miami settings, from charity events and art openings, to performances at the Arsht center, she was always surrounded by friends and family and brought light and laughter to every room. Watching her and Sanford dance was a treat and a memory that will always live in my mind. I am certain that she will continue to live in the hearts of all of all who knew her and remembered by anyone in Miami who is a patron of the arts.
