WRE Weekend Guide
R. Kelly at LIV on October 21, 2012
Miami, FL – October 17, 2013 – We’re halfway through October. Time to celebrate. Make it a weekend to remember with some music in a variety of genres, including R&B, electronic and indie. It’s also the perfect weekend for a good night out for a great cause—as if you need a reason to party. But just in case you do, here are five.
R. Kelly at James L. Knight Center and STORY
On Thursday, October 17, R. Kelly turns up the volume at the James L. Knight Center and then again later in the night at STORY for the official after party. The evening kicks off with opener JJ Williamson setting the mood, then, the man behind hits like “Trapped in the Closet” and “Step in the Name of Love” takes the stage. Here’s to hoping he gets old school with “Bump ‘n Grind.” We don’t see anything wrong with that.

Steve Aoki at LIV
The Grammy-nominated record producer hits the decks at LIV on Friday, October 18 for a night of tracks like “I’m in the House” and “Boneless.” In addition to the ear candy, be prepared for cake-throwing and champagne-spraying antics, as well as some ridiculous crowd surfing a la Steve Aoki style.

Basslights at Bayfront Park
It’s double your pleasure when Pretty Lights and Bassnectar hit Bayfront Park on Friday and Saturday for back-to-back nights of Basslights. Joining the hybrid band are PANTyRAID, Run The Jewels, Koan Sound and Supervision. Expect sheer magic when Derek Vincent Smith and Lorin Ashton combine their styles of freeform electronic bliss.

MCMCS Fundraiser at Blackbird Ordinary
On Saturday, October 19, give a little to get a little. Blackbird Ordinary is hosting a benefit for the Miami Children’s Museum Charter School to help raise funds for a music program for the school. Sip two-for-one drinks with a donation of $20 or bring a piece of music equipment and get the same deal on drinks. Take in tunes by DJ Fly Guy and special guests, while you’re at it. Go ahead, do it for the kids.
The Lumineers at Sunset Cover Ampitheater
On Sunday, October 20, the band behind “Ho Hey” and “Stubborn Love” hits the stage at Sunset Cover Ampitheater for an evening of indie folk goodness. Yes, you’ll have to schlep to Boca to hear it live, but being that The Lumineers peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and have gold albums in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia and platinum in Ireland, we think it’s well worth the drive.
