Miami, FL – Palms sweating, heart racing, you watch as the caller reaches into the bowl and pulls out a name. He leans over into the mic and calls out yours. You race to the wall where your first choice resides. You place your nametag on the hook. Victory.

Now in its 11th year, the adrenaline-fueled fundraiser Smash and Grab is back at Locust Projects, the non-profit exhibition space in Miami dedicated to propelling arts into the community. On October 26, more than 120 artworks will hang on the walls at the space, just waiting to be claimed. A ticket-holder and Locust Project member preview for the pieces will commence on October 19. The public may view the pieces October 22-25. But it’s the main event you don’t want to miss. For the $450 price tag, each ticket holder is guaranteed an original piece of art. But what you take home is in fate’s hands, as you have to wait for your name to be drawn from a bowl before you can stake your claim.

“It’s high-energy and excitement as ticket holders anxiously await their names to be called,” explains Chana Budgazad Sheldon, executive director at Locust Projects.

In the past artists like Carlos Betancourt, Karl Haendel, Jillian Mayer, Johannes VanDerBeek and Agustina Woodgate have donated their work to the cause. This year’s participating artists, however, include Justin Beal, Emmett Moore, Tracy Goodman, Felice Grodin, Sinisa Kukec and Typoe, with more than 120 pieces total.

“The quality of the artwork we receive truly demonstrates that artists and galleries recognize the importance of an organization such as Locust Projects in the community. The proceeds from this event provide essential funding for the organization’s innovative exhibitions and programs. To know that we have that kind of the support, is really great,” Budgazad Sheldon, as she explains what she most loves about the unique fundraiser.

She also warns that tickets are selling fast, as they are limited, so don’t wait to get yours. For more info and to purchase tickets, log on to http://www.locustprojects.org/events/event/smash-and-grab-fundraiser/
