Miami, FL – October 5, 2013 – Kicking off its 2013-14 season, The New World Symphony opened at the New World Center with a performance from 26-year-old Chinese-born pianist Yuja Wang. Michael Tilson Thomas was also in full form, leading Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite and Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes, which came complete with a video from British artist Tal Rosner. To say it was an epic night for music is an understatement. It set the tone of the upcoming season, which will include Luscious Landscapes, where fellows will play in kaleidoscopic works, Poetry in Motion, featuring video works, as well as free performances by fellows so everyone can truly take in the music. And that’s just part of the calendar for the month of October. As a major cultural hub in Miami Beach, the New World Center makes it its goal to bring groundbreaking performances to the area, whether its yoga on the law or symphonies by renowned musicians, be they 26 or 66.
