YoungArts Celebrates Opening of Lee Pivnik Installation with Art Talk & Reception at Bay Parc Apartments
Miami, FL – August 21, 2019 – The National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) in partnership with Aimco celebrated the opening of the new installation “Dust My Eyes With Diatomaceous Earth” by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Lee Pivnik (2014 YoungArts Winner in Visual Arts) with a reception and art talk at Parc Space at Bay Parc Apartments. YoungArts members, Bay Parc residents and guests enjoyed wine and hors d’oeuvres, and received a warm welcome from Bay Parc Community Manager Carlos Garibello and YoungArts Senior Director of Alumni Programming Lauren Snelling, followed by an art talk between Lee Pivnik and Amanda Sanfilippo Long, Curator & Artist Manager of Art in Public Places at Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.
The conversation introduced the audience to Pivnik’s new installation – on view to the public at Parc Space – and explored Pivnik’s artistic practice, past and future projects like the Institute of Queer Ecology, as well as topics such as temporality and the villainization of otherness. With “Dust My Eyes With Diatomaceous Earth” Pivnik presents a series of intimate gouache paintings and embellished ceramics, decorated to mimic a process of biological ornamentation in anticipation of a future installation that will take place in a dilapidated limestone building constructed in 1936 at Matheson Hammock.
Notable attendees of the evening included Julian Baccash, Olga Granda, Maryam Davani Hosseini, Sophie Landres and Ana Carolina Varela, as well as artists Gustavo Oviedo, Magnus Sodamin and Antonia Wright, among others.
