Miami, FL – November 23, 2024 – “Can we heal the divisions that separate us?” — Cuban artist Glenda León challenges the barriers that disconnect nations, cultures, and even our own bodies.
La Cometa is a project-based space designed to facilitate relationships between the viewer, the works of art, and the artists. The gallery, founded 38 years ago by Esteban Jaramillo, now has multiple locations throughout the globe, with Lucas Jaramillo serving as director of the Miami gallery.
“Only Lovers”, on display at the Miami gallery thru February 8th, examines how Cuban immigration to Miami has fostered an imagined Havana within the city, creating an illusory overlap between two worlds. León invites viewers to reflect on the emotional toll of displacement and the shared suffering of those seeking a new life. Through her art, León advocates for love as a path to healing.
By dismantling the illusions of separation—whether shaped by national borders or personal distances—her vision encourages unity and deeper understanding, offering a hopeful response to our divided world.
