Miami, FL – November 13, 2024 – Over 200 scientists, conservation professionals, and educators working on Florida’s Coral Reef gathered at the Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science for the second-annual ReeFLorida Symposium from November 12 – 15.
The National Coral Reef Conservancy (ReeFLorida) is an interdisciplinary marine science hub funded by NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program and established by Frost Science to provide unique opportunities for collaborative action to conserve, restore, and enhance Florida’s Coral Reef.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava helped launch the Symposium with opening remarks and a special proclamation establishing November 13, 2024 as ReeFLorida at Frost Science Day. Frost Science President & CEO Dr. Doug Roberts also welcomed guests before a plenary by Dr. Wesley Brooks, Florida’s Chief Resilience Officer. Throughout the four-day event participants engaged in talks, presentations, workshops and networking including a LIVE@Frost Science public lecture with WPLG Local 10 News Miami anchor and environmental advocate, Louis Aguirre. A special panel moderated by the Miami Herald’s chief climate change reporter Alex Harris, titled “Protecting Florida’s National Treasure”, featured Miami-Dade County Chief Bay Officer Loren Parra, Monroe County Mayor Holly Merrill Raschein, Broward County Marine Resources Environmental Program Manager Angela Delaney, and Palm Beach County Sr. Environmental Analyst – Reef Coordinator Katelyn Armstrong.
The ReeFL Symposium was funded by NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program.
