Miami, FL – October 5, 2024 – In honor of LatinX Heritage Month, The Art of Hip Hop in Wynwood has once again fostered vibrant cultural dialogue by hosting two prominent figures in Miami’s Hip Hop scene: Mr. Mauricio and Felix Sama. On October 5, 2024, these DJs engaged in a meaningful discussion about how their Latino heritage has shaped their careers as Hip Hop DJs in Miami.
Mr. Mauricio, born and raised in Miami to Colombian and Ecuadorian parents, has become a key player in the music and entertainment industry, renowned for his infectious beats that have energized Miami’s nightlife for two decades. His success has led to his role on the top-rated Rush Hour Mix Show with Papa Keith on Miami’s 103.5 The Beat. Beyond spinning tracks, Mr. Mauricio has collaborated with Miami icons like Pitbull and Rick Ross, contributing his own music to the scene.
Felix Sama, originally from Cuba, moved to the U.S. at just three years old. By the age of 18, he was already spinning records at Miami’s Playboy Club. At 19, he boldly submitted his mixtape to Phil Jones at Hot 105, where he spent five years, followed by a notable 12-year residency at Power 96. By 2000, Felix had launched bilingual TV shows on Telemundo’s MUN2, including Up Beat and The Roof, which helped popularize reggaeton. Now retired from radio, he dedicates his time to community initiatives like USA Breakin, which supports young B-girls and B-boys.
“We’re thankful for Pitbull’s Voli 305 Vodka for their ongoing support of Miami’s creative community. It’s inspiring to see how the LatinX music industry here connects, nurtures, and elevates local artists, labels, and all the behind-the-scenes talent,” said Alan Ket, co-founder of The Art of Hip Hop.
