LIVE@Frost Science Series “Breathing the Universe”

Miami, FL – February 8, 2023 – The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science welcomed over 200 cultural philanthropists, civic leaders and science supporters for its LIVE@Frost Science series with “Breathing the Universe,” featuring Professor Lisa Kewley, Director of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA). The evening began with an intimate cocktail reception on the outdoor Level 5 terrace. Following the reception, guests made their way inside the Frost Planetarium for the evening’s program. Dr. Doug Roberts, Frost Science VP of Science Education and Director of the Frost Planetarium, welcomed the crowd, followed by a special introduction by Frost Science Board TrusteeDr. Richard Kurin, Smithsonian Distinguished Scholar and Ambassador-at-Large. During the talk by Professor Kewley, guests went on a journey with oxygen from the formation of the first oxygen in the infant universe shortly after the Big Bang, to the oxygen on Earth today. Professor Kewley described how current ground and space telescopes are helping us measure and understand the origins of the oxygen atoms that we breathe on Earth, and how the next generation of telescopes, including the Giant Magellan Telescope, will revolutionize our understanding of oxygen on planets outside our solar system.
