Miami, FL – April 27, 2022 – In honor of The Glioblastoma Research Organization’s 4th fully funded brain cancer research project, Project Garcia, an exclusive and intimate cocktail reception with celebrity chef, Lorena Garcia, and renowned physicians at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center was held at CHICA Miami. Guests enjoyed vibrant flavors from CHICA’s Latin-inspired menu. Amber Barbach, founder and director of the brain cancer nonprofit, presented a check for $50,000 to fund this project , while Dr. Michael Ivan, Co-Director of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Brain Tumor Initiative, led the conversation about the new partnership and importance of funding research to find a cure for glioblastoma, an aggressive, treatment-resistant type of brain cancer. Special guests received curated wellness gift bags from brand partners including Sol de Janeiro, Mad Hippie, RESET Bioscience, and Liquid I.V. as part of the closing celebration.
Project Garcia, named after Chef Lorena’s brother who is currently battling glioblastoma, will combine two technologies, Simulated Raman Histology and 3D MR spectroscopy, that could revolutionize surgical treatment for this aggressive brain cancer.
