The Art Plug & Red Bull Jump Motorcycles Over Miami During Art Week
Miami, FL – December 5, 2019 – Marcel Katz aka The Art Plug put on a historic event on top of the Museum Garage in the Miami Design District. In collaboration with Red Bull, The Art Plug installed a freestyle motocross course on the garage’s rooftop and a group of world-class riders performed stunts for a select group of attendees. This will go down as the world’s first rooftop FMX demo.
Deemed a “performance art” piece, Marcel Katz and Hayes Wheelless of Red Bull curated a roster of daredevil riders and featured artists to collaborate. The Art Plug artists designed bikes to match their own style but also mesh with the rider and the surface. Artists included: Jason Naylor, Lefty Out There, Kai, and Miami’s own, Mijares.
Motocross riders included: Ronnie Renner, one of the most decorated FMX riders of all time; Tyler Bereman, a current X Game Gold Medalist; Gregg Duffy, a world-record holder already for the first motocross double front flip; and TJ Tiffany.
This opening kickoff event pushed the boundaries on the realm of possibility and how we define what art really is. During this crazy week of fairs, exhibitions, and parties, it’s refreshing for someone to shake things up a bit and do something never done before.
Guests were treated to tasty hors d’oeuvres courtsey of Brad Kilgore and Ember/Kaido, as well as cocktails courtesy of Tito’s Vodka and 1800 Tequila. The show was additionally enhanced by DJ sets by the Miami legend DJ Irie and the talented duo Dude Skywalker.
Following this kickoff event, The Art Plug and Red Bull took the show on the road to The Citadel in Little River for The Art Plug Power House, where they set up ramps for more stunts amidst an art fair encompassing 60+ artists, activations/installations/murals, gallery exhibitions, and much more.
