Miami, FL – November 11, 2019 – Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science hosted a special viewing of the 2019 Transit of Mercury in partnership with NASA. Approximately 13 times each century, Mercury passes between the Earth and the Sun, creating a special alignment where the planet can be seen crossing over the Sun through a telescope here on Earth. This relatively rare occurrence happens only about 13 times every 100 years. Throughout the day, over 2,000 museum guests enjoyed real-time live views of the transit as broadcasted globally from a telescope on the rooftop of Frost Science. In addition, NASA scientists Brian Day and Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist Emily Law led special presentations focused on Mercury.
