Miami Beach, FL – February 9, 2019 – Guests gathered at the Frost Art Museum FIU to celebrate the kick off celebration for the Two Powerful Shows. Museum Director, Jordana Pomeroy welcomed guests to the openings of two new exhibitions: Jess T. Dugan and Vanessa Fabbre: To Survive on This Shore and Asian Crossroads: Influence and Interaction Along the Maritime Silk Road. Jess T. Dugan’s photographs document transgender and non-conforming older adults. This collaboration took Dugan and Fabbre cross-country where their subjects were photographed and interviewed. Dugan, a recent recipient of the ICP (International Center of Photography) Award, also presented a lecture tracing the trajectory of her career. Guest Curator, Brian Dursum, Director Emeritus of the Lowe Art Museum, treated guests to a tour of the Asian Crossroads exhibition, illuminating the crowd with fresh perspectives about the narrative of the maritime Silk Road during the 10th and 17th centuries. Made possible through support of the Jane Hsiao Asian Art Endowment, Dursum conducted extensive research into the arts of Asia collection at the museum.
