Miami, FL – October 3, 2018 – “Kitty Hawk” – a comprehensive STEAM initiative that serves all 26,000 Miami-Dade County Public Schools seventh-graders through the Arsht Center’s latest Learning Through the Arts program – took off in its second year with an inspiring boost of private support from Miami philanthropists and the aviation community. Aviation industry supporters from Boeing, World Fuel, Airbus, ATR, the Greater Miami Aviation Association, South Florida Aviation Maintenance Council, 630 AeroSpace, and JetBlue attended the program’s Broadway-style production on Oct. 3, along with George Sherman, The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, The Kirk Foundation, The Peacock Foundation, The Ansin Foundation, SunTrust, Arsht Center Board Chair Ira D. Hall and his wife, Carole F. Hall, and Arsht Center Board members Alan Fein, Karen Fryd, Penny Thurer and Adrianne Cohen.

After enjoying the show about the world-changing Wright brothers with 1,200 students, “Kitty Hawk” supporters enjoyed a lunch conversation with two of Florida’s vital STEM professionals: research meteorologist Shirley Murillo and pilot Commander Justin Kibbey, who are “Hurricane Hunters” with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
