2016 Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park Hosted by Belinda Stronach
Arcadia, CA – November 5, 2016 – The Breeders’ Cup returned to The Stronach Group owned Santa Anita Park for its 33rd running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. This year marked a record ninth time that Santa Anita hosted the Breeders’ Cup, one of Thoroughbred racing’s most prestigious international events, consisting of 13 races and purses totaling $26 million over two days at one of the world’s most scenic racing venues. In an exciting race to the finish line Arrogate passed the crowd favorite California Chrome to capture the Breeder’s Cup Classic. Jockey Mike Smith is a four-time Classic Winner while Arrogate won his fifth consecutive race. Coincidently, Allison Janney presented a trophy to Mike Smith at the Winner’s Circle at an earlier race today. In addition to the exhilarating races, Boyz II Men stole the show with soulful harmonies in front of a record breaking crowd of 72,811. Other notable guests who joined Belinda Stronach at the race included Emily Ratajkowski, Susan Sarandon, Elizabeth Banks, Camilla Bell, Billie Lourd, Taylor Lautner, Wilmer Valderrama, Kyle Howard and more. On January 28th, 2017, Belinda Stronach and The Stronach Group will host the inaugural Pegasus World Cup Invitational at The Stronach Group owned Gulfstream Park. The $12 Million Pegasus World Cup Invitational will surpass the $10 Million Dubai World Cup as the new world’s richest thoroughbred horse race.
