Arsht Center’s 10th Birthday Celebration
Miami, FL – October 8, 2016 – The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County recently turned 10. To commemorate the milestone, Miami’s home for the performing arts invited the entire community for an all-day birthday party. The all-day birthday bash kicked off inside the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall with a festive parade led by Bahamas Junkanoo Revue and an onstage birthday cake-cutting ceremony hosted by ABC 10’s Calvin Hughes and John Richard, the Center’s President and CEO. Over 100 talented children from Miami Music Project’s Leaders Orchestra and Miami Children’s Chorus got everyone in the spirit by performing “Happy Birthday To You” in three languages – English, Spanish and Creole. After the ceremony, partygoers enjoyed complimentary sweet treats courtesy of Brava by Brad Kilgore, the Center’s new on-site restaurant. The fun continued throughout the day with back-to-back performances featuring a variety of Miami-based artists including Fushu Daiko Drumming, Cirque Dreams, Guitars Over Guns, Spanish Wrangler, Rara Lakay, Karen Peterson Dance, Bluejay, Hello Elevator, Ketchy Shuby, Ground Zero Crew and Afrobeta.
The day culminated inside the Ziff Ballet Opera House with a thrilling concert starring local favorites Spam AllStars and Tiempo Libre, with CeeLo Green as the main headliner. The five-time Grammy Award winner and former coach of the “The Voice” made his anticipated return to the Center after a spectacular performance in 2010. Green wowed fans with a high-energy show featuring his worldwide hits such as “Crazy” and “Forget You,” along with favorites from Michael Jackson, Prince and the Pussycat Dolls. CeeLo’s hour-long performance had the entire audience on their feet as they danced and cheered for more. Immediately following the concert, everyone capped off the celebration with an outdoor after party with DJ Sama and Mr. Pauer on the Center’s Thomson Plaza for the Arts.
