RIP Zaha Hadid

Miami Beach, FL – April 1, 2016 – It’s a sad week in the architectural world as we mourn the loss of the great Dame Zaha Hadid, who passed away unexpectedly on Thursday here in Miami. Hadid was widely regarded as the greatest female architect in the world. Renowned for her elongated structures, dramatic and experimental designs — often said as impossible to build, Zaha Hadid’s acclaimed architecture transforms our ideas of the future with visionary spatial concepts defined by advanced design, material and construction processes. Some of Hadid’s global works include the Vitra Fire Station in Weil Am Rhein, Germany (1993), the MAXXI: Italian National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome (2009), the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympic Games (2011) the Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku (2013), the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati (2003) and the Guangzhou Opera House in China (2010), to name a few. Miami locals may recognize Hadid’s work with the up and coming One Thousand Museum, the architect’s first skyscraper design in the Western Hemisphere. With her name on the project and iconic design in the center of downtown Miami’s skyline, the tower will be the catalyst that shifts the center of gravity for high design and luxury residences in the downtown area.
Hadid’s boundary breaking ways led her to become the first woman to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004, as well as the first, on her own, to be awarded the RIBA Gold Medal, Britain’s top architectural award in 2015, amongst other countless awards and recognitions. There is no doubt that Hadid has left a powerful impact on not only those in the architecture realm, but the world as a whole.
