An Evening with Jeffrey Deitch at de la Cruz Collection
Jeffrey Deitch
Miami, FL – October 6, 2014 – Former co-curator to the Wynwood Walls, art dealer, museum director, writer, and exhibition organizer, there are very few things in the art world that Jeffrey Deitch hasn’t dabbled in. Last night Miami’s art scene came together to hear the thought-provoking words of Deitch, the first in a series of lectures presented by de la Cruz Collection and Miami Design District. Jeffrey Deitch, who curated the exhibition “The Painting Factory” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2012, spoke about how a group of artists have advanced the tradition of abstract painting by incorporating contemporary image-making technology, a performative approach, and a sensitivity to the social context. The talk also focused on the innovations and influence of Andy Warhol, Rudolf Stingel, Christopher Wool, Mark Bradford, Wade Guyton, Josh Smith, Tauba Auerbach and others on recent abstract painting. Deitch captivated the crowd from start to finish with his pristine knowledge and passion, marking for the perfect kick-off the the lecture series.
