Miami, FL – February 5, 2014 – Soccer fans rejoice because the world’s most popular sport is now coming to the world’s hottest city. Soccer superstar David Beckham, Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber and Miami-Dade County mayor Carlos A. Gimenez officially made the announcement this morning that David Beckham will be getting an expansion franchise, and its home will be none other than Miami. The announcement was held at the Perez Art Museum and was followed by a press conference at Verde, the museums waterfront restaurant, to discuss the future plans. This will be the first time in the modern era that an ex-athlete joins the ranks of ownership. If all goes well, the new team could begin to play as early as 2016. This new addition seems to be a perfect fit for the multicultural melting pot of Miami.
