Coral Gables, FL – October 26, 2013 – There are only 375 of them in the whole world. And, on Saturday, October 26, 30 VIP guests got to see what the McLaren P1 was all about when The Collection hosted a private viewing of the fantastic sports car. A homage to the good life, the million dollar exotic hybrid was unveiled through personal one-on-one appointments accompanied by caviar, lobster tails and champagne. Brought in directly from the United Kingdom to The Collection, the McLaren P1 is able to go a quarter mile in 9.8 seconds. Both President and CEO of The Collection Ken Gorin and Marcus Korback of McLaren P1 were on tap to talk about the car’s astonishingly fast capabilities, uber sleek design and eco-friendly aspects. Afterward, we caught up with Gorin to get even more detail on this driving machine.

What makes this car unique?

The P1 supercar is the successor to the McLaren F1 road car, a car considered by many to be amongst the best supercars ever made. It is unique in that it is designed to be the fastest production vehicle on the track, while at the same time ecologically friendly, thanks to an innovative hybrid electric drive train. It is also limited to only 375 cars for the entire world, so it is very unique and rare.

Why is it a great addition to The Collection?

It is a great addition to The Collection because it is the first supercar to be built by McLaren Automotive. It is also an honor to be one of the few dealerships in the world to be able to offer this extremely limited-production vehicle. The P1 is the ultimate expression in vehicle technology, and it fits right in at our dealership, where we strive to offer our client base the best and newest products the car world has to offer.

Who are some celebs that own one?

As you may know, celebrities are not always keen on people knowing what vehicles they drive, but some well known celebrity car collectors were amongst the first to order the P1, such as Jay Leno and Ralph Lauren, to name a few.

This is the ultimate track car, what makes it so?

McLaren has taken everything it has learned over the course of 40 years as a Formula 1 race team, and poured all of the technology and research into the P1. Some of this technology that has crossed over is the use of carbon fiber throughout the body and chassis, carbon fiber disc brakes (a first for a production vehicle), a seven-speed dual clutch automated manual gearbox, active aerodynamics, which change the vehicle height and respective down force based on conditions, and a form of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) called IPAS (Instant power assist system), as well as a drag reduction system (DRS) used when passing other vehicles on straight aways. The most important thing for any track car is the power to weight ratio, and the P1 boasts one of the highest power-to-weight ratios of any vehicle, at an impressive 647 bhp per ton.

Why is it not subject to the regular racing regulations?

Although the P1 features all of the above mentioned Formula 1 derived features, it is not subject to racing regulations because the car is entirely street legal, and not subject to particular racing policies, which allowed McLaren to add features which may not be homologated, or allowed, in certain forms of racing.

What’s it like when it’s on the streets?

McLaren’s chassis is one of a kind, thanks to an incredibly advanced hydraulic suspension system, the car is able to offer a very comfortable supple ride, while at the same time an ideal track setup. This is very special as usually track suspensions are extremely firm and uncomfortable, because extreme handling requires a very firm suspension.

What’s your favorite color it comes in?

The P1 is stunning in any color, but McLaren offers a wide range of metallic paints (referred to as Volcano), and any of the volcano colors suit the car perfectly (can be red, orange or yellow).

Tell me about how it’s only one in 375.

The production is limited to 375 for the world, of which approximately one third will come to the United States. Needless to say it is an extremely rare vehicle, which makes the P1 an instant classic and collectible.
