Austin, TX – March 16, 2013 – The Smashing Pumpkins astounded everyone when they were announced as the top secret big headliner for Saturday night’s show at the Red Bull Sound Select 120 Hours Stage during the last weekend of SXSW. Just minutes after the announcement on Saturday, fans started lining up around the block, waiting for hours to get into the 350 person venue. They were the fifth and final secret show for the week, after Prince and Justin Timberlake surprised festival-goers the night before. The Smashing Pumpkins smashed it in Austin for a two hour-long set that spanned just about every year they’ve been musically active- from their classic 90s rock hits to their more recent stuff. Even fans started chiming in a “Happy Birthday” tune to lead singer Billy Corgan as he rang in his 46th birthday at midnight.
