Dylan Lauren

Miami Beach, FL – March 7, 2013 – When you step inside Dylan’s Candy Bar, you’re stepping inside the world of Dylan Lauren. Daughter of iconic American fashion designer Ralph Lauren, this candy queen is just about as sweet as can be, and wants everyone to experience what a fun, youthful place Dylan’s is. Lucky for us Miamians, she’s opened her fifth U.S. store right on Lincoln Road. And what an attraction it is. The giant-sized candy canes and colorful patio chairs sitting on Lincoln catch everyone’s eyes as they pass by, and can’t help but wander into this wonderful candy land.

Upon entering, you’re greeted by a giant, artistic-looking lollipop tree in the center of the place, with buckets and buckets of candy lining both sides. To the far left, there’s a whole wall of special holiday treats for Easter and kosher chocolates for Passover, along with her signature line of Dylan’s products and throwback candies. To the far right, there are tons of colorful Dylan’s merchandise to bring a pop to everyday notebooks, iPhone covers, tote bags, t-shirts, and even doggie delights. Head to the back of the store and that’s where the ice cream concoctions are made- like a s’mores pizza or any sundae your heart desires. Up the stairway to candy heaven you’ll find adorable sweet pillows, a wall of collectible Pez dispensers, and the entire M&Ms rainbow. Take a tour with us as the candy queen herself shows us around her Miami store on her first visit since it opened just a few short weeks ago.

“I’m really happy to be here in Miami. I came here a little anxious for how [the store] was going to be received, but there’s people from all over the place- from all different cultural backgrounds and age groups, and they all seem to be very happy.”

“My favorite scene from ‘Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory’ actually inspired a lot of the decor. It’s when he first opens the gates, and there’s the green grass with the gummy bear trees and lollipop trees… This is a little bit more of an art gallery curated, where candy is more like art, but there’s also the Willy Wonka feel.”

“All the ice cream flavors are amazing, but I think the Candy Bar Blast is my favorite. It’s got like 12 different candy bars blended in!”

“We have over 7,000 candies in the store, so you can just imagine how many I have to try and with the holidays it changes. With the chocolate bars, we have flavors like Malted and dessert bars like Angel Food Cake, which is my favorite. We had to try like six different kinds of chocolate to make sure it really tasted like an angel food cake. We’re coming out with a whole new one- Pancakes and Syrup. We’ve been through a lot of different trials to make sure it’s right. So it’s fun to try it all, but after a while it gets to be too much like oy oy oy!”

“My sweet tooth doesn’t ever get sick of it, but after overdosing on sweets in a given day, I need a little break. I like our coffee. It takes away my sweet tooth after a while, so it’s great to refresh the palate.”

“We have great relationships with vendors who distribute and candy companies from all over America who choose Dylan’s, actually, as a place to launch and relaunch stuff. We’ve been fortunate to have them send us stuff that hasn’t been around since the 1920s and 30s.”

“We’ve always had the word ‘bar’ in our logo and the martini glass. I wanted it to be an adult candy store. So it’s a play on words. We mean ‘candy bar’ as in a chocolate bar, but also as a drink bar too. We have great mixologists who helped us invent flavors that linked in the candy aspect.”

“I love everything. It’s hard to pick just one. Each day I discover something new I like. For Easter, I like the bunny gummies- they come in all these different fruit flavors. I love gumballs too. We also have these things called clodhoppers that are chocolate clusters of different kinds, and they’re really good.”
