Miami Beach, FL – December 3, 2012 -The best part of Art Basel Miami Beach—aside from the obvious influx of stellar talent swarming the Design District, Wynwood and South Beach areas—is the comradery amongst attendees. For one week, assemblies of VVIPs unite to celebrate common interests. It’s a stage for said somebodies to catch up with old friends and make new ones. And of the most accomplished individuals making waves during Art Basel Miami Beach every year is New York real estate giant Aby Rosen.

Rosen’s South Florida property—the W South Beach Hotel and Residences—has naturally been the chosen venue for his annual dinner party—a who’s who of society elite—since the hotel’s opening in 2009 (think Michael Douglas, Sean Penn and Naomi Campbell). The hotel is also internationally recognized for its assortment of impressive works of art (all of which derive from Rosen’s personal collection) including those by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Just days before his 2012 Basel affair ensues, World Red Eye caught up with Rosen to talk art, the W South Beach and what’s to come.

“The art program in the hotel has been a real success,” Rosen says, “everyone, not only those who make it to Miami this week, admires the works we have on display. In keeping with our program to rotate the art and introduce fresh pieces, we have made big plans for a new installation in the coming months that will be very cool.”

While we look forward to capturing Rosen’s Basel festivities this year, here’s a toast to those past.
