Matthew Chevallard

Miami, FL – December 21, 2012 – What began as a menswear brand for the modern gentleman in 2005 has spiraled into the sole supplier (a term coined by Del Toro) for both women and men of all ages. Let’s put it this way, when it came to Christmas shopping this year, everyone from siblings to grandparents got a pair of DT’s.

Italian-born Matthew Chevallard, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Del Toro, initially sought to fill a void in the marketplace for affordable customized velvet slippers. Today, his shoe enterprise offers ladies and gents a vast selection of not just slippers, but chukkas, wingtips, drivers and espadrilles. From pony hair high-tops (chukkas) to studded slippers in a range of bold prints and hues, DT footwear cultivates the stickiness factor. You can’t just stop at one pair.

In recent news, the cool brand has opened its first-ever retail destination in The Wynwood Building. As a pioneer of Miami’s evolving art culture, Chevallard commissioned local artists Evoca1, Hoxxoh and GG to create murals on three of the boutique’s walls. The gallery-like space speaks to Chevallard’s interest in the change we’re currently seeing throughout the city. “Miami is home to Del Toro,” Chevallard says, “and the evolution of Wynwood is becoming increasingly prevalent. I look forward to growing with the Wynwood community and Miami’s fashion scene.”

To celebrate the store opening, we took Chevallard for a spin around the neighborhood and stopped at some of his favorite walls.

“It’s a new wall and right on the corner from the Del Toro boutique. The whimsical colors brighten our day.”

“The limo is right out front of our boutique and blends well with our building yet contrasts at the same time.”

“This wall is a melting pot just like the city of Miami.”
