This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Swim Show Miami, which is the countries biggest swim trade show and the convention that started the tradition of summer swim shows in Miami Beach. However, it was when IMG decided to make Miami Beach its summer home just less than a decade ago, that this week in Miami truly became an international fashion destination. To rival the shows in Milan, Paris, and New York, Miami has helped the show grow each year by serving as the perfect backdrop – nowhere hotter and nowhere sexier. Miami Beach, FL – July 16, 2011 – Lorenzo Martone launched his first fashion project, a line of women’s swimsuits under his new Nycked label. The debut collection included swimsuits adorned with heat-bonded foil sequins, oversize decorative bows in ciré Lycra, bold corset lacing and lingerie-inspired lace peeking out of demi-cut bikini tops. The key color themes are black, white and red, with nude mesh overlays on some designs. The brand’s logo is a geometric bat, based on an origami construction.

Miami Beach, FL – July 17, 2011 –Melissa’s jelly shoes looked almost deliciously edible as waiters circulated silver trays with samples of the fabulous Spring Summer 2012 collection under the shadow of the palm trees at the Grove at the W South Beach, where CEO Michele Levy and Lorenzo Martone hosted a brunch during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim.

Among the highlights of the collection is Melissa’s first collaboration with an American designer, Jason Wu, the 2011 winner of the CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year Award.  “Melissa has traditionally worked with European designers and artists, we feel it is time to embrace a more American aesthetic.” Says CEO Michele Levy.

Making its way from The Raleigh, home of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, through the sizzling streets of Ocean Drive, the CLS 63 AMG Fashion Force vehicle clad in its official badging is pulling over stylesetters and rewarding them with a ride to their next destination.  Each stylesetter chosen by the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Force is going to have their picture taken and awarded a pair of limited-edition Havaiana flip flops created especially for The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Force.  Several of the most stylish arrestees will receive the top prize of all, invitations to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim runway shows as well as an invitation to the official Fashion Force culmination event, hosted by Danny Santiago in the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge.

Miami Beach, FL – July 17, 2011 – “Lazy Sunday” at The Standard was injected with an extra touch of fashion and fun with a celebration of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Swim Week 2012. Ocean Drive Magazine partnered with Gilt City Miami to showcase the latest in swim trends from The Webster.  Guests lounged in the sun while sipping Perrier Sparkling Water and Leblon Caipirinhas and nibbled on a Brazilian-style BBQ by the pool.   Budding fashionistas also put their creativity to work at the “Make Your Own” Havaianas station where partygoers were able to mix and match different colored flip flops, straps and custom embellishments.

Betty Bangs Bikinis & Bikes

Miami Beach, FL – July 14, 2011 – The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club and Betty Bangs Swimwear kicked-off Swim Week with a BANG ! The hotel transformed  into a rock & roll fashion mecca during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Swim Week 2012. Hosted by Hotelier Nathan Lieberman and Designer Beth Gerharts, guests enjoyed a fun night of live music, rock & roll themed cocktails, a Pop Up Shop and none other than the Betty Bangs Show Pony models. Award-winning custom choppers by Warren Lane lined the entrance to The Maxine’s Bistro & Bar while close to 100 custom motorcycles lined up on Collins Avenue. Models adorning Betty Bangs new 2011 swim suits interacted with the crowd and posed for pictures shot by acclaimed photographer Joel Venge. Guests rocked out to live music by Video DJ Tom LaRoc with a live drum performance. The Maxine’s already stylish lounge transformed into a Betty Bangs Pop Up Shop.  The pop up shop featured Betty Bangs’ new line as well as some of her more coveted rock & roll inspired vintage pieces. Sponsors included Skinvas make-up, VENGE media and Elements Entertainment.

July 18, 2011 – Miami Beach, FL – TARA, Ink. was asked by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012 organizers to host the closing runway show at the Cabana Grande tent, and did they deliver ! The event, held Monday night, July 18, 2011, featured designers ZINGARA, JOGO BEACH, TAVIK Swimwear and Perfect Tan Bikini debuting their spring/summer 2012 collections to a packed house of media, buyers and VIPs. Chez Badeaux Salon of Miami Beach created beach-sexy hair and flirty makeup looks complementing each designer’s collection. The models showcasing both Tavik Swimwear and Perfect Tan Bikini collections rocked Carlos by Carlos Santana footwear.
