Curator Culture at The Bass: Sheila Hicks, Sharon Johnston, & Mark Lee
Miami Beach, FL – April 14, 2019 – Exhibiting artist Sheila Hicks, architects Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee, and host Tom Healy held a discussion at The Bass on the topic, Thread, Draw, Weave & Dream. The conversation came on the heels of Hicks’ solo exhibition opening, Campo Abierto (Open Field), and embraced similarities within art, architecture and the fabric of life. Illustrated markedly through Hick’s choice use of textiles – the panelists discussed how we are all fabricators who wrap ourselves in the fabric of stories that tell us who we are, where we’re going, and who we will become. Moderated by writer and activist Tom Healy, the curated conversations bring together unexpected pairings of individuals who influence the way we look at and experience the world. The series discussions are around a universal question – what is really worth our time to look at, listen to, touch, taste or talk about? Curator Culture is presented thanks to a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its Knight Arts Challenge.
