YoungArts Miami Celebration at Private Residence
Miami, FL – February 23, 2019 – Miami, FL – February 24, 2019 – Supporters of the National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) gathered at the home of longtime supporters Bill Jones and Rey Hernandez in Miami Shores for a private reception in celebration of YoungArts Miami. As one of the organization’s regional programs, YoungArts Miami offers life-changing experiences, guidance and support to YoungArts winners through interdisciplinary workshops, seminars and master classes with renowned leaders in their fields. YoungArts Board Chair Sarah Arison welcomed board members and supporters and introduced YoungArts alumnus Antonio Madrugo (2012 YoungArts Winner in Jazz), who performed a selection of contemporary jazz and a spirited rendition of the Irish classic “Danny Boy” to a captive audience, who erupted with applause when he announced his third solo album and shared a memorable career moment of performing for Michelle Obama. In reflecting on his own YoungArts experience, Madrugo said, “Before I participated in National YoungArts Week, I had no idea of the talents that existed in the world. Being around such a high caliber of people was invaluable.” Replete with hors d’oeuvres and specialty cocktails, the reception preceded the YoungArts Miami Dance, Theater and Voice performance at the nearby Miami Theater Center. Notable guests included board member Jay Franke and David Herro, Sarah Johnson Court, Luis Olarte, Jenny Starr Perez, and Alba and Christian Wardle.
