Q&A: Diez y Seis by Chef Jose Icardi Grand Opening Celebration at Shore Club
Miami Beach, FL – June 19, 2018 – Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Chef Jose Icardi was born with the culinary arts in his DNA. Icardi’s gastronomic journey began at a young age as he watched his parents run their family restaurant, Don Giovanni. At the age of 16, Icardi began working in the restaurant and learned the traditional Argentinian BBQ technique “EL ASADO,” which remains an influence in his cooking. On Tuesday, World Red Eye captured the grand opening celebration of Icardi’s newest restaurant Diez y Seis, Shore Club’s South Beach brand new Mexican concept.
sbe hosted an evening with featured music by DJ Pauer along with a special performance by a live mariachi band, passed bites and cocktails along with a formal sit-down dinner for almost 100 of Miami’s most influential. Also in attendance were sbe’s Chief Brand Officer, Michele Caniato as well as Sebastien Silvestri, COO of Disruptive Group at sbe Lifestyle Hospitality and Jesper Soerensen, the property’s General Manager. WRE: What can guests look forward to about dining at Diez y Seis?
JI: Diez y Seis is the full package! We are located in the iconic Shore Club South Beach with the perfect view and a new décor that’s unique. The smell of the wood fire from the Comal & Grill is out of this world! All you need is to sit back, relax, and enjoy as we take you on a short adventure through Mexico in the heart of south beach.
WRE: What is the meaning behind the name of your restaurant Diez y Seis?
JI: Diez y Seis is the actual independence day from Mexico.
WRE: What type of cuisine is served at Diez y Seis?
JI: I like to call it contemporary Mexican with a Miami flare.
There’s no other Mexican cuisine and flavors like Diez y Seis in Miami. The flavors of each dish with the Shore Club views, décor, will set us apart because their simply is no other property with these qualities.

WRE: How has your heritage influenced your culinary career?
JI: One of my fondest memories as a child is the smell of my fathers cooking. I grew up in the kitchen and fell in love with it since a young age and my heritage is what has taken me to where I am today.
WRE: What is a must try dish on the menu? Do you have a favorite dish?
JI: All of our dishes have a different profile and a mix of flavors that I cant choose a favorite one. They all are a MUST! Once you try you will understand.
WRE: Tell us about the special cocktail menu?
JI: Our handcrafted cocktails are inspired by various regions of Mexico. From tropical flavors from Cancun to spicy aromas of Oaxaca you will encounter a unique and different taste in each cocktail.
WRE: This is your second restaurant with the leading global hospitality brand sbe, what are you looking forward to in this partnership?
JI: sbe is a global lifestyle hospitality company that has give me such a great opportunity and is only growing. I am looking forward to another success with Diez y Seis at the Shore Club with this great company as Leynia at Delano.
