The Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science Citizen Science Workday
Miami, FL – January 20, 2018 – Volunteers gathered to support The Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science Citizen Science Workday for MUVE, Museum Volunteers for the Environment. MUVE is Frost Science’s volunteer coastal habitat restoration project. About 50 volunteers attended to replant native dune vegetation at a beach at Virginia Key North Point. A subset of volunteers cleared debris from the beach which is one of three active sea turtle nesting beaches in Dade County. Also they annouced a $287,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Resilient Communities Program. The event was funded by Wells Fargo, the museum was eight of 232 non profits nationwide to be selected for a grant. The grant is allowing us to restore three living shorelines, create an exhibit about sea level rise and engage underserved communities in Miami most threatened by sea level rise.
