YoungArts Presents “Artists as Citizens” Salon Talk & Private Dinner at Coya Miami
Miami, FL – October 19, 2016 – The National YoungArts Foundation presented the first Salon talk of its season with an engaging discussion on art activism and social practice. “Artists as Citizens” featured internationally renowned artists Teresita Fernandez, Mel Chin, and YoungArts alumnus Chat Travieso (2003 Winner in Visual Arts & U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts), and moderator Carolina García Jayaram, YoungArts President & CEO. With more than 100 guests in attendance, creatives, supporters, community leaders and arts enthusiasts congregated at Ted’s in the YoungArts Tower for a vibrant conversation about the artists’ respective practices. Delving into their unique approaches as well as the role of artists creating in the public space, “Artists as Citizens” connected audience members and YoungArts to an important, larger discourse on the connectivity between the arts, advocacy, community and agency. Notable attendees included Debra Koch and Andres Fanjul Jr. from YoungArts Corporate Partner JP Morgan Private Bank; Patricia Garcia-Velez Hanna from YoungArts Visual Arts Discipline Sponsor Related Group; Marisa Fort from YoungArts Design Discipline Sponsor Arquitectonica; and Lisa Schejola Akin, Dan and Kathryn Mikesell, Martin Rozenblum, and YoungArts panelist, master teacher and curator Robert Chambers. Starr Catering provided bites and beverages. Following the Salon, YoungArts donors, JP Morgan Private Bank guests, and Coya Miami members had the opportunity to meet Fernandez, Chin and Travieso at a private dinner hosted by Coya Miami restaurant, where YoungArts alumni Mel Bryant and Josh Bermudez performed an acoustic set.
