LOEWE Celebrates ‘Chance Encounters’
Miami, FL – December 2, 2015 – Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of LOEWE, with Don and Mera Rubell, Founders Rubell Family Collection, celebrated the opening of ‘Chance Encounters’, an exhibition with works of four major historical and contemporary British artists: Anthea Hamilton, Paul Nash, Lucie Rie and Rose Wylie. The exhibition is installed in and around the 18th Century granary building which Anderson had transported to Miami from a small town on the border between Galicia and Portugal.
Built out of stone and wood and originally used for grain storage, its dramatic, even surreal, presence in the space stages a meeting of past and present, embodying LOEWE’s celebration of both tradition and modernity and embracing the potential of contradiction which is key to Anderson’s creative approach. “When I first conceived the idea of the LOEWE store in Miami I wanted to create an environment in which to bring Spanish history and craft into a modern context. My ultimate goal with LOEWE and the LOEWE FOUNDATION, is to create dialogues with art, craft and other creative fields. This exhibition is a personal snapshot of single moment, bringing together things that have recently lodged in my mind and shaped my thinking. For me art is a lens through which to examine the current moment.” Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson. The exhibition will run from 2nd December to 17th January.
