Daniel Arsham: The Future Was Written & Isaac Julien: Stones Against Diamonds at YoungArts
Miami, FL – December 1, 2015 – National YoungArts Foundation kicked-off Art Basel Miami Beach week with élan with contemporaneous exhibitions, sounds by DJ MeLo-X, bites by Starr Catering Group and libations courtesy of Marlee’s Green Tea Whiskey. Four new works by Daniel Arsham were unveiled in The Future Was Written, an interactive exhibition featuring nearly 2,000 objects made of chalk where visitors had been leaving their marks, drawings, and words on the gallery’s black chalkboard-painted walls. Audiences also lined-up for Arsham’s new catalog signing in benefit of YoungArts. Across the campus plaza, Isaac Julien, one of Britain’s most important and influential artists and filmmakers, revealed Stones Against Diamonds (Ice Cave) in a North American debut. The Turner Prize nominated artist, commissioned as part of the Rolls-Royce Art Programme, created a video installation that filled the magnificent YoungArts Jewel Box across 15 screens — the largest and most impressive presentation of the work to date. Sarah Arison and Julien were present to welcome guests including Bill Jones, Ana Helena Araujo, Bob Lynch, Nora Halpern, Kelly Bensimon, Glenn Lowry, Jeff and Lisa Akin, Scott Shuffield, Andres Fanjul Jr., and Oltion and Julie Mollaymeri, and among other notables.
