Cindy Crawford

Miami Beach, FL – October 6, 2015 – In celebration of world renowned supermodel Cindy Crawford’s new book, “BECOMING,” Faena Rose hosted a lunch at Casa Claridge’s Faena Miami Beach followed by a talk and book signing by Cindy Crawford. The celebration was introduced by Cindy Crawford’s friend Lara Shriftman, and the talk was moderated by Pablo De Ritis, Executive Vice President of Faena Rose, an exclusive arts and culture-based membership community comprised of international entrepreneurs, industry leaders, artists, and innovators from diverse backgrounds. The book is a compilation of 50 photos and 50 essays in celebration of Cindy’s 50th birthday.  “The pictures are the sugar to make the medicine go down,” says Crawford. Guests included renowned supermodel Cindy Crawford, co-author of BECOMING, Katherine O’Leary, Cindy’s mother-in-law Ellen Gould, Faena Miami Beach owner Alan Faena stopped by with Ximena Caminos, Argentinian model, Ines Rivero, Thea Andrews, Kinga Lampert, Susie Wahab, Michelle Rubell, Laura Buccellati, Natalie Gee, Alicia Goldstein, Yolanda Berkowitz, designer Carolina Kleinman, Susanne Birbragher, Lisa Heiden, Iran Issa Khan, Belkys Nerey, Lara Shriftman, Cultured magazine editor-in-chief Sarah Harrelson, and Douglas Elliman’s Laura Cresto.

“BECOMING” is a chronicle of American icon and supermodel Cindy Crawford’s life, in which she shares stories of her professional and personal evolution, accompanied by her most iconic images, as well as never-before-published photographs from her personal archive. On the eve of her fiftieth birthday, Cindy Crawford looks back on a super-nova career and remarkable life. Cindy describes her earliest modeling years and the process of becoming less self-conscious in front of a camera; her reaction when an early agent suggested she remove the mole that would become her trademark; and how her exile from a Chicago studio gave her the courage to “dream big”, move to New York, and learn to own her power in a business that has been known to infantilize women. Cindy also gives us an account of her entrepreneurial accomplishments, and shares her observations on our youth-obsessed culture. The reader will be inspired to read about Cindy’s determination to create positive messages about a healthy body image that she knew would reach women of all ages; her feelings about marriage and motherhood; her thoughts on this milestone birthday, and what she would tell her younger self if she had the chance.

Alan Faena will debut Faena District Miami Beach, a new neighborhood with art and culture at its core, in November 2015, with the opening of Faena Hotel Miami Beach. Situated on a majestic strip of beach in the heart of Miami Beach, Faena District stretches north from 32nd Street to 36th Street—between the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Creek—and will open in phases over the next three years. It will feature one-of-a-kind cultural, residential, hotel, retail, restaurant, and public environments that have been conceived as dynamic expressions of art, design, nature, technology and service.

Faena Hotel Miami Beach typifies South American hospitality and is destined to achieve a new benchmark for service. Formerly the historic Saxony Hotel, the hotel will feature 169 rooms and suites and 13 penthouse residences spanning the top two floors of the property. Award-winning film director/producer Baz Luhrmann and four-time Academy Award® winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin in collaboration with Alan Faena will impart their distinctive aesthetic on the design of all the hotel’s interiors and public spaces. Inspired by the great opera houses of the world, the 3,000 square foot Theater at Faena Hotel Miami Beach will present live cabaret shows for guests and the public alike. The property’s 15,000 square foot Tierra Santa Spa will bring to Miami the first South American-inspired spa, while the hotel’s fire kitchen, Los Fuegos by Francis Mallmann, will be the celebrated chef’s only restaurant in the United States, offering an authentic South American dining experience, complete with asados (outdoor barbecues). Faena has additionally collaborated with Paul Qui, who will debut his first restaurant outside of Texas at the hotel, and Chef Gabriel Ask, who will serve as Executive Chef for Faena Hotel Miami Beach, overseeing all Food & Beverage as well as room service.

Faena District will also include Faena Forum, a groundbreaking new institution designed by Rem Koolhaas/OMA and dedicated to the development of cultural programming that transcends disciplines and encourages collaborations across artistic, intellectual, and geographic boundaries.  Additionally, Faena District will include Faena House, an extraordinary, 18-story luxury condominium designed by Foster + Partners, Faena Versailles Classic, 22 exclusive residences in the historic, art deco Versailles tower (formerly Hotel Versailles) designed by William Sofield, as well as a newly constructed tower, Faena Versailles Contemporary designed by Brandon Haw.
