Delou Africa’s “Seeds of the African Dispora” at Arsht Center

Miami, FL – January 24, 2015 – The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts continued its seventh consecutive season of Family Fest, the Center’s signature series of free family-friendly performances ranging from local artists to internationally-acclaimed acts, with Delou Africa. Delou Africa, a local educational and performing arts organization focused on West African culture, delighted South Florida families with “Seeds of the African Diaspora,” a vibrant celebration of African culture through live dancing, drumming and music. “Seeds of the African Disapora” explores the rich culture of Africa through dance, song, music, rhythms and folktale complete with colorful and traditional costumes. The captivating show took the audience on a journey through the Mali Empire and other regions in Africa; the Caribbean by way of Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba and Trinidad; and the United States. The performance also featured narrations by Djenaba Greogry-Faal and Latrice Bruno, and performances by Delou Africa Dance Emsemble, Children of Kuumba, Venus Rising Women’s Drum and Dance Ensemble, Sikan Afro-Cuban Dance Project, Pantastik Musical Educational Development, Mas Brothers and hip-hop artist Taurean Devoe. As the show came to a close the crowd roared and capped off the performance with a standing ovation.
