Miami, FL – December 5, 2014 – Art Basel 2014 marked the official ground breaking for globally renowned architect Zaha Hadid’s first project in the Western Hemisphere, One Thousand Museum by Zaha Hadid Architects. Hadid was joined by her longtime business partner Patrik Schumacher, along with lead designer Chris Lepine, in a celebration of the start of construction of this monumental project. Miami mayor Tomás Regalado and Commissioner Marc Sarnoff presented Hadid with the key to the city of Miami in honor of the illustrious architect’s eminent Downtown Miami project. This pivotal event was preceded by a cocktail party on Thursday, which presented the first of a series of  “Art + Architecture,” featuring a live painting demonstration by Miami artist Jona Cerwinske. Notable Attendees of the groundbreaking included Zaha Hadid, Patrik Schumacher, Chris Lepine, Louis Birdman, Gregg Covin, and Kevin Venger.
