Two Powerful Shows at Frost Art Museum Pave Way For Art Basel
Miami Beach, FL – November 8, 2014 – The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum ushered in the highly anticipated Art Basel season with two powerful shows that opened Saturday evening to a stellar crowd of Miami’s arts and community leaders, along with visiting artists from throughout the U.S., Asia, Europe and Latin America. From China, Wang Qingsong’s ADinfinitum, and from Argentina Global Exchange: Geometric Abstraction Since 1950 (from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Buenos Aires, MACBA). This strong pairing sets the season into motion with a blaze of elaborate color and spectacle: Wang Qingsong’s colossal and daring photo-murals encompass the entire third floor of the museum. MACBA’s stellar collection of multinational artists has been transported to the Frost’s three galleries on the second level. Notables in attendance included FIU Provost Dr. Kenneth Furton, Dr. Jordana Pomeroy the Frost’s new incoming director, Chinese artist Wang Qingsong, Samford Wurmfeld, Charles Hinman, Cristina Ghetti, Donna Shalala the president of the University of Miami, Dr. Carol Damian, Aldo Rubino the executive director of MACBA, and FIU’s Dr. Lidu Yi.
