Miami Beach, FL – September 6, 2014 – He’s a man of many sounds, mentored by Pharell Williams and most importantly a Miami native; Cris Cab’s highly anticipated album, “Where I Belong” is officially out and it only seemed fitting to have the release party in the city where it all began. Friends and fans gathered poolside at Hyde Beach on Saturday evening to join Cab in celebrating this momentous occasion. Cab serenaded the crowd with his sweet acoustic sounds, playing some of his latest hits including “Good Girls” and “Liar Liar.” The good vibes seemed contagious as the crowd of fans jammed out, feeding off of Cab’s energy all night long. Without a doubt this was certainly a night to remember.

We were lucky enough to catch up with the man of the hour before his big performance, and hear a little bit about what’s going on in the life of Cris.

WRE: How does it feel having your album release party in your hometown?

CC: It’s an amazing feeling. After so much success abroad it feels great to finally come back home, bring my music here and really start my campaign in the US. It was awesome to be surrounded by my friends and family as well.

WRE: Since you grew up in Miami, how has the culture around here influenced your sound?

CC: The culture of Miami has majorly impacted my sound. The Miami culture, and the way I grew up was very much so in a way that is truly only known to Miami. There is a lot of hispanic, Latin and Caribbean culture and I think you can hear that in my music. It’s got a sunny warm feeling to it.

WRE: Was there any specific inspiration for your latest album “Where I belong?”

CC:  I wrote the album starting at 17 and finished it up at 21 so for me it has been a huge growing process and definitely a period of self discovery. I think that goes for anyone around that age. On the album I primarily talk about discovering your own way, discovering who you are, who you want to be all while figuring out the truth of reality and the things that are not.

WRE: Your mentor, Pharrell Williams, has clearly had one of his biggest years yet, is there any advice he has given you that has really stuck out?

CC: Something that I’ve always taken from Pharrell is that there is no substitution for hard work and you really need to work hard to put yourself in the right position to succeed. At the end of the day there’s talent, a little bit of luck and timing but overall I would say the majority of it takes hard work to get where you want to be in this business.

WRE: What is the most exciting thing that you are looking forward to on tour?

CC: The most exciting thing I’m looking forward to is being with Pharell who has has always been my mentor growing up. His band now was my first band starting off, so we all know each other and it’s going to be one huge family out there. We’re definitely going to be having a great time.

WRE: If you can describe your sound as a landscape what would it look like?

CC: It definitely would look like an island with clear water that you can see over 100ft down, sun beaming the whole time and people having some drinks.

WRE: Who would your dream collaboration be with?

CC: I’ve been fortunate to work with so many of my idols already including Pharell Williams, Wyclef Jean and Dallas Austin but someone who I’ve always wanted to work with was Lenny Kravitz. I really think his style would mesh well with what I do.

WRE: Do you have any advice for young musicians looking to make it big?

CC: My advice to anyone looking to make music, or in anything really, is to remember that the most important thing is confidence and to really believe in yourself. There are going to be a lot of spectators and people who are doubting you, criticizing you or telling you you can’t do something so I would suggest you use that as fuel and believe in yourself. Take advice, good or bad, but in the end you have to go with your gut.

WRE: Who are some other artists you are constantly listening to?

CC: I really enjoy this band out of the european home front called Milky Chance. They have a great song out right now called “Stolen Dance,” which I think is really cool and a very laid back.
