Miami Beach, FL – January 28, 2014 – On Tuesday evening, five days after beloved local DJ Mark Leventhal entered a coma at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s ICU, fans, friends and family gathered at HaVen South Beach to honor the mixmaster. Organized by Dirk DeSouza, along with HaVen GM Ben Arndt and owner Michael Boles, a dozen old-skool local DJ’s, booked by DJ Sean Drake, entranced 400 well-wishers with funk, soul, 80’s and classics, snuffing the night’s solemn purpose with an incredibly positive party vibe Leventhal would have loved. While the funds haven’t been completely tallied, it’s thought that between $20,000-$25,000 was raised to help pay for Mark’s medical bills, family expenses and children’s well-being. Mayor Phil Levine donated $1,000 and offered perspective, while sister Amy Leventhal, flanked by sister Nancy Leventhal, took to the mic to thank everyone, reminiscing about her joyful, playful childhood with her fallen brother. Neurologists continue to monitor Mark’s medical condition. listing his coma as “stable”, and everyone in World Red Eye’s extended family of photographers, contributors and clients continue to support and pray for Mark’s full recovery.
