Art Talk at the Sagamore
Miami Beach, FL – November 21, 2013 – Art was the topic of conversation when the Sagamore hosted a prelude to its annual Art Basel installation. Known as the “Art Hotel,” the space hosted a conversation between world-renowned film and media art curator John Hanhardt and Executive Director and chief curator of the Bass Museum of Art Silvia Karman Cubina. At the event, Framing the Moving Image, the property-wide installation was revealed. The piece, which will be open to the public during Art Basel and was curated by John Handardt, show how artists capture, compose and represent traditions and histories, as well as changing material landscapes through moving images. Standouts include Shannon Plumb’s Paper Collection (2007), which looks at fashion models and the fashion industry; Ken Jacobs’ Star Spangled to Death (1956-1960), which is a stern approach in an eight-hour collection of filmed and found footage focused on American history and the state of the economy; and Bill Beirne’s Interstices, a site-specific piece created for the hotel, which includes a series of live performances that re-enact typical behaviors captured on surveillance cameras around the hotel.
