National Yoga Month
Miami Beach, FL – September 11, 2013 – If you’ve recently had the urge to bend, stretch or wrap yourself up into pretzel shapes, go for it. September is National Yoga Month. And Miami’s yoga community is embracing the holiday with a slew of activities. The official kick–off event took place at the Fontainebleau spa, Lapis, when Green Monkey helped host Tribe, the second edition of the Lapis Spa Wellness Series on Friday, September 6. Yogis at the 90-minute yoga class got their asana on with Dawn Feinberg of Yogart, Amy Steiner of Lululemon and Sharon Aluma and Paula Walker of Green Monkey while DJs Ess & Emm dropped beats to fit each teachers’ style. Other spas, like Exhale, are also getting in on the downward dog action. On September 19, the spa at Epic will host Namasday, a yoga bash celebrating the spa’s yoga offerings, which include Exhale Power, Exhale Flow, exhale Chill. Classes are complimentary. As expected, The Standard Spa Miami is also getting bent into shape with events like $108 for an unlimited month-long yoga pass, where you can experience daily bayside sunrise yoga, anusara yoga, vinyasa, Budokin flow and warm yoga in the hamam. You can also get your om on at the Bayside Fall Equinox Sunset Yoga Soiree on Tuesday, September 17 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with Christy McKenzie. Want to know why yoga is good for you? Stop in for the complimentary Yoga Evolved Talk on September 21 from 6:30-8 p.m. Then head back to The Standard on September 29 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for H2-ROAM with Cat Haayen for 25 minutes of running and 60 minutes of yoga. Afterward stick around to savor the hamam and steam room. After that kind of workout, you’re going to need a good R&R session.
Closing out the month is the mother of all yoga events, Yoga Gangsters Challenge at 1111 Lincoln Road. Join more than 500 yogis for 108 sun salutations atop the parking garage lead by leaders in Miami’s yoga community. It’s a serious commitment with serious karma points. Afterward, enjoy vendors with yoga, gear, organic goodies and more. The event takes place on September 22 from 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $25 or raise $108 by assembling a team with proceeds going to Yoga Gangsters, an outreach program that teaches yoga to at-risk kids.
