Miami Museum Month: Bass
Miami Beach, FL – May 15, 2013 – Right now, Miami Museum Month is currently going on for the month of May, and we’re giving you a guide to one of the must-visit museums participating: the Bass Museum of Art. All month long, you can get free admission to over 20 museums with the purchase of one ticket. This buy one, get one free deal is a great way to see all the art and history in a variety of exhibits all around Miami. Plus, if you have a membership at any of the participating museums, you’ll get free admission to them all.
The Bass Museum of Art currently has four exhibits on display that are worth checking out. First, there’s From Picasso to Koons: The Artist as Jeweler. From March through July, you can see this showcase of 200 works from 135 artists organized by French curator and jewelry collector Diane Venet. It offers a unique perspective on accessories, featuring “wearable sculptures” from artists like Jeff Koons, Lucio Fontana, and Yoko Ono. A second exhibit that just debuted last month at the Bass is Eve Sussman | Rufus Corporation, a presentation of the video artist’s recent projects. From now until August, this exhibition presents two major video installations. While not a traveling exhibit, the Egyptian Gallery is also definitely worth checking out. It’s Florida’s only Egyptian gallery and features real artifacts from this ancient, historical time like a sarcophagus and mummy. There are 16 objects in total that are showcased from the mysterious, intriguing Egyptian civilization.
Take a look at The Artist as Jeweler exhibit below in the Bass’ most recent event, A Night at the Museum, along with other successful galleries over the past couple years. If you haven’t been before, now is the time. Head over on Saturday, May 18, for entirely free admission in conjunction with AAMD Art Museum Day. And at 3pm, catch a performance of Gordon Gumshoe – Fairytale Detective by Fantasy Theater Factory.
