Miami Beach, FL – April 2, 2013 – The Broken Shaker at the Freehand Miami knows that writers and whiskey go hand-in-hand. So they held a mixology competition to celebrate two great American writers and two iconic whiskeys. Tuesday’s Twain vs. Orwell Mixology Competition had eight local mixologists slinging their best Mark Twain or George Orwell-inspired drink with Ardbeg or Glenmorangie single malt whiskey. It all went down in an Iron Chef style match with four judges: David Blackmore, the global brand ambassador for Glenmorangie and Arbeg; Trisha Cancilla, the regional marketing manager for Glenmorangie and Ardbeg; Galena Mosovich, cocktail connoisseur for Miami.com and The Miami Herald;and Mickey Heads, the distillery manager for Ardbeg who flew in from Scotland.

At the stroke of 7:30, live bagpipes sounded as the two finalists were declared. Trevor Alberts from Gramps Bar in Wynwood went against Michael Parish from the Broken Shaker in a sudden death round to create a special shot using Ardbeg or Glenmorangie. It was Parish who came out victorious at the end of it all, taking home the first place title for the Shaker. Both finalists got a private edition bottle of Ardbeg or Glenmorangie, and Parish also got a new iPad mini.
