Los Angeles, CA – February 14, 2013 – Did you know that one in three women in the world will be beaten or raped during her life? With the world population at nearly 7 billion people, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls. So, One Billion Rising, an initiative that started last year on Valentine’s Day, took place yesterday for the second year. Los Angeles was one of many cities across the span of 203 countries that brought together one billion people to dance and rise in order to end violence against women. V-Day isn’t just the nickname for the romantic holiday most of us celebrated yesterday, but actually a global activist movement dedicated to this cause.

Yesterday V-Day partnered with Zumba® Fitness, the largest dance-fitness company in the world known for making working out fun with its “Fitness-Party,” for a very special One Billion Rising event in downtown LA at LA Live’s Nokia Plaza. Tons of people gathered to rise up and dance with V-Day Board Member, activist, and Academy Award-winner Jane Fonda as well as celebrity supporters Dylan McDermott and his ex-wife Shiva RoseEve Torres, actresses KaDee StricklandFrances Fisher, and many others including celebrity Zumba® instructor Gina Grant. It was a great day where everyone came together to support this meaningful cause and create awareness around the world.
