Miami, FL – November 13, 2024 – Senator Marco Rubio has been tapped by President-elect President Donald J. Trump to serve as the next Secretary of State.

In a statement, Trump praised Rubio as a “highly respected leader” and a “fearless warrior” who will be a strong advocate for the U.S. and its allies. Rubio, once a rival to Trump in the 2016 presidential primaries, has since become a key ally, playing significant roles in Trump’s foreign policy, especially concerning Latin America.

If confirmed, Rubio, currently on the Senate Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committees, would bring extensive experience to the role, especially amid ongoing global conflicts like those in Ukraine and the Middle East.

His nomination for Secretary of State is expected to pass smoothly through a Republican-majority Senate, after which Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would appoint Rubio’s successor in the Senate. A Cuban American, Rubio would be the first Latino person to serve as secretary of state.
