Miami, FL – July 20, 2024 – Museum Volunteers for the Environment (MUVE) volunteers spent the morning planting native sea oats to help restore essential dune ecosystems in Crandon Park. MUVE is a volunteer-based habitat restoration program run by the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science that uses citizen science, museum exhibits, outreach initiatives, and eco-art to engage with local residents and enhance our coastal environments. Since 2006, more than 13,000 volunteers have enhanced over 25 acres of mangrove forest, freshwater wetlands, beach dunes, and coastal hammock. This network of ecosystems provides shelter for native wildlife above and below the water line, stabilizes our shores, and protects our city from storms and sea level rise. MUVE hosts monthly workday events for the community.
